Hotels in Phi Phi
The Phi Phi archipelago in southern Thailand’s Krabi Province is often considered to be one of the world’s most stunning and accessible groups of islands. There are six islands in the archipelago, two of which are by far the most famous: Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Leh. These islands are the crown jewels in Thailand’s island crown, featuring absolutely world-class beaches, stunning coral reefs, coastal cliffs, dense jungles and a super-relaxed attitude.
With all these things on offer, it is no surprise that Koh Phi Phi has become such a massively popular beach destination. This truly is a piece of paradise. Koh Phi Phi Leh, although totally uninhabited, is arguably the most iconic of the two main islands—this was where the movie “The Beach” was filmed. Koh Phi Phi Don, on the other hand, is by far the most developed and the only inhabited island in the archipelago and is where the vast majority of hotels are located.
As the Phi Phi islands are technically part of a marine national park, development on Koh Phi Phi Don is limited to a section between the island’s two main beaches. But it’s a densely concentrated section.
Koh Phi Phi’s enormous popularity is reflected in the prices for hotel rooms. Rooms are more expensive than elsewhere in Thailand, although that is, of course relative. You can still find a decent double room for 400 baht. Prices tend to go up exponentially as you get closer to the beach, with room rates up to several thousands in the seaside resorts.
The best time to visit Koh Phi Phi Don is during the Full Moon Parties on nearby Koh Phangan, which is where youngest travelers will be then. The nights after a Full Moon Party, accommodation is almost impossible to find. Book ahead to be sure.
