Events, festivals and holidays in Koh Samui
Songkran Water Festival (Thai New Year) starts 13 April and lasts a few days. Songkran is the famous festival which sprays water on everyone, from young to old and even police officers get wet. No one is safe, spraying water one to two days. Especially transport and accommodation can be full this week. Book in advance.
Buffalo fight festival is normally held on New Year's Day and Songkran 13 April. Can not be compared with Spanish bullfighting, fighting on Samui is pretty mild. Buffalo season varies according to ancient customs and ceremonies.
Bowling Championship is an annual bowling event held in May every year.
Avis Samui Tennis Open, the annual amateur tennis tournament in July.
Fishermans Village festival (fishing village of Bophut) festival going on for five days are celebrated with music and food. Several famous musicians usually attend and food tents sell cheap dishes from local hotels, held annually August 22 to 26.
Triathlon an international competition that triathlon union organizes every year in April. This event on Koh Samui draws about five hundred participants from all over the world. The event attracts both professionals and amateurs.
Samui Regatta is an annual sailing tournament to be held in May-June. The tournament is internationally known and competitors coming from as far away as Australia, Singapore, Japan and China. This sailing race with classes of all sizes and shapes, started in 2002
