Koh Phangan is one of Thailand’s most visited islands. Located in southern Thailand, between other popular islands such as Koh Samui and Koh Tao, Koh Phangan is a true tropical paradise, home to lush rainforests, stunning beaches and amazing coral reefs. The one thing it is most famous for, however, is the monthly Full Moon Parties. These parties take place on Haad Rin Beach once every month and last the entire night. They are truly massive parties, drawing in crowds as large as 30,000. After the party, the beach and island empties again, prices drop and quietness returns.
As the Full Moon Parties attract mostly young budget travelers, Koh Phangan is home to countless backpacker accommodations such as hostels, beach huts and guesthouses. That being said; Koh Phangan is slowly moving away from its backpacker-related origins and is starting to focus more on families and package vacationers, as well as people who want to stay for a longer period of time.
Koh Phangan is more than partying and the main beach, though, for there are many hidden sand beaches and peaceful bays where you could spend weeks on end. Many long-term-stay houses aren’t located at the beach, but there are, of course, some that are. An entire house can be rented for around 5,000 to 6,000 baht per month—this includes a bedroom, electricity and water, kitchen, bathroom and Wi-Fi. Houses with two bedrooms are approximately double the price. Long-term rental prices are usually lower the longer you stay. A half-month stay, for instance, is not half the price of a full-month stay. Half a month in a one-bedroom rental house costs about 5,000 to 7,000 baht, while a two-bedroom house is between 9,000 and 15,000 baht.
