Attractions Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta means Lanta Island, but the name actually refers to a group of islands off the southwest coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. The largest of the islands are Koh Lanta Yai (the most populated, also frequently called simply Koh Lanta), Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Klang. A bridge to join the two Lantas is in the process of construction, with the hope that it will lead to increased development and prosperity for this smaller island. As to be expected in an island setting, many tourist activities center on the water, although there are some interesting natural and cultural sights.

Nature

The enormous Koh Lanta National Park extends 135 square km and includes the two Lantas plus 50 other smaller nearby islands in its scope. In the center of Koh Lanta Yai, you will find the Khao Mai Kaew Caves, many of which contain fascinating stalactite and stalagmite formations. Near Pra Ae beach you can visit the exquisite tropical beauty of the Orchid Nursery Farm.

Cultural Attractions

The Old Town of Koh Lanta provides a living lesson in the region’s history and cultural diversity, families of Thai fishermen, Chinese merchants, and a mysterious community of sea gypsies. Lessons in Thai cooking allow visitors to take home a bit of traditional culture when they leave Thailand. Traditional Thai boxing is demonstrated and taught at the island’s stadium.
